Air Cadets Success On Annual Camp - August 2009

Cadets from 1861 Wantage Squadron Air Training Corps recently returned from their annual camp winning three out of four trophies. The Squadron spent a week at RAF Marham in Norfolk the home of the RAF Tornado Force learning about aspects of the RAF. Cadet Collins was awarded the “Best Newcomer” whilst the “Best Cadet” went to Cadet Riggs and the “Best Junior Non-Commissioned Officer” trophy went to Corporal Mann.

Flight Lieutenant Endean who accompanied the cadets on camp said, “Its rewarding to see that the cadets get so much out of their membership of the Air Cadets, and especially when on camp with the RAF. They build strong self-reliance, new friendships and learn new skills while gaining aspects of work experience whilst on annual camps, and give their parents a well-earned break for a week.”

Both Corporal Mann and Corporal Winship have been promoted to Cadet Sergeant rank upon their return, reflecting their hard work and leadership displayed whilst on camp and on the squadron. Wantage Squadrons next annual camp is at RAF Waddington in October. The squadron is open to anyone aged 13 to 17 and is located in Icknield Lane.
