Expand Your Horizions - Join The Air Cadets...
Seeking a new challenge? Our organization needs high calibre cadets and adult volunteers now!
With nearly 1000 squadrons in the UK and Squadrons in Germany, Gibraltar and Cyprus you are likely to be closer to the Air Cadets than you think. This is your chance to join over 40,000 cadets taking part in Air Cadet activities every week.
What did you do last weekend?
Bored! Want a challenge and want to use and develop your leadership skills - and get real qualifications into the bargain – then read on.
As a cadet in the Air Training Corps (ATC), you can fly in civilian or military aircraft, take part in aerobatics, learn to fly a glider or go on a UK or overseas camp. Then there’s shooting, parachuting, caving, climbing, hill walking and trekking, aeromodelling, sports, canoeing, rock climbing, amateur radio, parades, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the chance to train as a musician and join a cadet band. There’s a lot to choose from. It’s up to you to find the activities you enjoy. But the more you put in to the Air Cadets, the more you’ll get out of it.
The Air Cadets aren’t a recruiting service for the RAF, it’s a ‘youth organisation” for people aged 13 to 17 years old who are up for a challenge. Membership costs are £7 per month and we even supply you your uniform.
The Aims of the Air Training Corps are:
- To promote and encourage among young people a practical interest in aviation and the Royal Air Force.
- To provide training which will be useful in the Services and civilian life.
- To foster the spirit of adventure and develop qualities of leadership and good citizenship
Perhaps that's not so surprising when you learn that HRH Prince Philip is the Air Training Corps Commodore-in-Chief, taking a keen interest in the organisation and its members. Air Cadets get the opportunity of flying in RAF and commercial aircraft - many progressing to achieve Flying Scholarships and their Private Pilots Licence (PPL).
Seeking a new challenge? We are always keen to welcome new adult volunteers to our ranks - all we ask is a few hours of your time each week. After your initial training and checks to enable you to work with young people we will start to develop your skills, so don't worry that you don't know much about the activities we offer - we just ask you to be keen to learn and to do your best for the cadets at all times. After your initial training more specialised courses become available - these include adventure training, sports, shooting and professional skills.
