Welcome to 1861 Squadron!

Welcome to the 1861 (Wantage) Squadron website. We hope our website reflects the vibrant, active and friendly place that we have here. This site is intended to be a useful resource for our cadets, as well as an interesting read for our visitors. Feel free to browse the site - there is information here for everyone. Visitors may be particularly interested in our latest news stories.

As well as providing information for the cadets of the Squadron, we also recruit via this website. We are always looking for new cadets and adult staff to join our team. Feel free to drop by to see what we are about. If you are interested in joining the Air Training Corps you can leave your details by e-mailing us. You can also contact us via telephone, just click here for details. If you have any questions then ask away and we will be happy to answer!

For interested adults, there are opportunities to become Civilian Instructors, NCOs and Commissioned Officers. You can also get involved as a member of the Civilian Committee (Parents! You are particularly welcome!) If you are interested, then you can contact the Squadrons Commanding Officer.

1861 (Wantage) Squadron was formed in late December 1941, and is part of Thames Valley Wing, whose headquarters are located in Whitecross, Abingdon. Thames Valley Wing is in turn, part of the South West Region. Wantage Squadron headquarters is located in the heart of Wantage, a convenient walk from the Town Centre. You can read about our proud history on this website too.

The Squadron meets on Tuesday and Thursday between 1915hrs and 2145hrs. Cadet membership is open to UK citizens both male and female between 13 and 17 years of age. The upper age limit is generally eighteen, although some cadets are able to extend their time with us beyond this. Then they may continue until their 20th birthday.
